3 Browns players to watch in Week 3 battle against the NY Giants

The Cleveland Browns welcome the New York Giants to town this Sunday in a Week 3 battle down on the lakefront. Huntington Bank Field will be hopping with Browns fans looking forward to a Cleveland win. To get that “W,” the team will need to continue to improve, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They got a bit of a spark from their quarterback, Deshaun Watson, last week in their win at Jacksonville, as they managed to hold onto the victory.

They’ll need to carry that momentum in this Week 3 battle. There are plenty of players for the Browns who can help with that so let’s look at a few of them.

Amari Cooper, WR

If you were wondering where Amari Cooper went, you aren’t alone. The Browns fan base has been asking that question a lot this week. The veteran wide receiver has only caught the ball five times after being targeted 17 times for only 27 yards. It’s the fewest receptions and yards gained in his career. The 10-year veteran and seven-time 1,000-yard-gainer per season wide receiver has had a very uncharacteristic start to the season.

Some are speculating that he’s lost his step after turning 30 years old this summer. That’s a ridiculous take. He had 11 receptions for 265 yards and two touchdowns just last December in a game against the Houston Texans. I believe more of the issue has to do with his quarterback Watson just not being very accurate on his pass attempts and the two of them just not getting on the same page yet.

Cooper has had several stretches in his career where he has disappeared a bit, but he’s always bounced back. I suspect that he will get more involved in the next few games, and we won’t be asking the “Where’s Coop” question anymore.

D’onta Foreman, RB

Foreman got the surprise start last week in the Browns game in Jacksonville. He went for 14 carries and 42 yards gained. It wasn’t a great performance, but it was a solid start for the seven-year veteran. He had 109 carries, and 425 yards gained last season in eight starts with the Chicago Bears. The best season of his career was back in 2022, when he was the starter in Carolina. That season had him gain 914 yards on 203 carries and five touchdowns.

I look for Foreman to get the load of carries moving forward this season, at least until Nick Chubb returns from his injury. I’d suspect Foreman will get anywhere between 15 to 20 carries a game and that should spell success for his team as they try and get on a roll.

Myles Garrett, DE

The best edge rusher in the game will get an opportunity to wreak havoc again this week when his team takes on the Giants. He’s registered two sacks and forced two fumbles already. Considering he is usually being double-teamed every play and being illegally held almost every play, it’s amazing what he has already accomplished.

The Giants have a subpar offense right now. They’ve given up six sacks while the Browns have recorded seven sacks. There’s always a game in the early part of the season that Garrett shines in more than others. I think this will be one of those games. He’ll get at least two sacks and maybe help create a turnover. It should be a victorious Sunday for Cleveland especially if Cooper, Foreman, and Garrett have anything to say about it!
