Charlton Athletic Suffer Another Huge Injury Blow

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has revealed that goalkeeper Will Mannion missed Saturday’s defeat to Exeter City due to a thigh injury, as reported by London News Online.

Mannion was replaced in goal by Ashley Maynard-Brewer for the 1-0 defeat at St James Park.

Growing Addicks Injury List

The goalkeeper, who had been an ever-present between the sticks until Saturday, joined a list of 10 players who were unavailable for the trip to Devon.

Jones was without players such as Chuks Aneke, Kayne Ramsay, Dan Potts and Tyreece Campbell for the game and had to place an injured Tayo Edun on the bench to make up the numbers.

“We’ve got people like Tayo Edun we had to bring who got injured yesterday but was on the bench,” explained Jones.

Injury Out Of Nothing

Jones was frustrated with the freak nature of Mannion’s injury, with the goalkeeper feeling discomfort after making a save.

“Making a save the other day, he felt something in his thigh, which caused him to miss the game. That’s frustrating. Out of nothing.”

“Wasn’t a kick; he hadn’t drilled a ball; he was just making a save and then felt it. It seems to be the thing at the minute. We don’t know [how long he will be out]; we’ll have to see how things go.”

Jones Reacts To Defeat

Saturday was Charlton’s first defeat in six matches across all competitions, and the manager spoke with Charlton TV about the loss.

“I thought we were nowhere near first half. I thought we kept giving the ball away and then they could put the ball in our box and get corners. There was no momentum, really. We didn’t do it enough first half and we let them take initiative.”

“The second half was a lot better. We passed the ball better, we went in with quality and had the best chances of the game. We should have gotten something out of the game. They’ve scored from a set play and we haven’t taken our chances.”

Writer’s View

Charlton’s season is yet to spark and Jones will be frustrated by the inconsistency and inability to put a winning run together.

The injury situation with his number one is the last thing Jones needed, and he will be hoping Mannion is not out for a long period and that stand in Maynard-Brewer improves on Saturday’s performance.
