For the first time in a while, the Boston Bruins are entering the offseason with a lot of cap space. Due to this, they are expected to be aggressive and look to bring in new talent to strengthen their roster.
With Matt Grzelcyk and Derek Forbort both unlikely to return, it would not be too shocking if the Bruins added a left-shot defenseman to their roster this offseason. It also appears that they are eyeing a notable one on the trade market.
According to The Fourth Period, the Bruins are one of five teams currently linked to San Jose Sharks top defenseman Mario Ferraro. In addition to the Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, and Carolina Hurricanes are expressing interest.
Ferraro, 25, is a player who the Sharks do not necessarily need to rush to move. This is because he is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season. However, at the same time, the Sharks are rebuilding and are open to hearing offers for him. His affordable $3.25 million cap hit only adds to his value.
If the Bruins landed Ferraro, he would be a solid addition to their top four. Playing on the club’s second pairing with Brandon Carlo, he could work well. Ferraro would also give the Bruins another solid penalty-killing defenseman on their roster, which is always welcomed.
Ferraro appeared in 78 games this season for the Sharks, posting three goals and a career-high 21 points. He was also impactful defensively and with physicality, recording 124 hits and 195 blocks.
