The Boston Bruins lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins by a 2-1 final score on Friday (Nov. 29). Overall, it was a classic, back-and-forth contest that saw both teams create plenty of chances. The Bruins ended the night with 32 shots, while the Penguins had 36.
This was not a game where the Bruins were significantly outplayed. However, while this is the case, an ongoing problem presented itself yet again in the Bruins’ loss.
The Bruins once again did not score a goal in the third period at TD Garden. This ultimately sank them, as Penguins forward Philip Tomasino scored at 7:26 of the third. Unfortunately for the Bruins, they could not beat Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry from there.
With this, it has now been 13 games since the Bruins scored a third-period goal at home. Their lone third period at TD Garden occurred during their home opener against the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 10. This puts them at the bottom of the NHL with third-period goals at home.
The Bruins will need to change this massive problem if they hope to turn things around this season. Perhaps they will break their massive third-period cold streak at home against the Canadiens on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 1).
