Charlton Athletic have been without the attacker since last winter after he sustained a serious hamstring injury. He has since been on a long road to recovery as he aims to get back on the pitch.

Leaburn, 20, has played for the Under-21’s recently as he gets back up to speed. Nathan Jones needs to weigh up when to throw him back in and will be careful.

His teammate Chuks Aneke has said, as per London News Online:

“I’ve seen Miles over the last couple of years develop and he’s been unlucky with injuries because he has been really, really good when he has played.

“Fingers are crossed for him that he can come back and stay fit and show the world how good he is – because I see it in training. He is a very good player. I’m excited to see what he goes on to achieve in his career. He has huge potential.”

Charlton Athletic injury boost

Leaburn has had a tough past 10 months or so and getting him back will be great news for both him and Charlton Athletic.

He has bags of potential and will give the Addicks more competition and depth up top.

Leaburn rose up through the academy ranks at Chelsea before switching to The Valley back in 2019.

He was handed his first professional contract in 2022 and made his debut in the same year at the age of 18 in a League One clash away at Accrington Stanley.

The forward hasn’t looked back since and has since made 58 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 20 goals.

His contract expires in June 2025, so his long-term future is up in the air right now. His main focus has been on getting over his hamstring problem, though.

What now?

Leaburn is currently boosting his fitness levels, and Charlton Athletic needs to consider when it is right to play him.

They are back in action this weekend against Shrewsbury Town away.

The Addicks then lock horns with fellow third tier outfit Cambridge United next Tuesday in the EFL Trophy, which seems like a more sensible match for him to play if he is ready by then.

Jones’ side won their first three fixtures of the season against Wigan Athletic, Leyton Orient, and Bolton Wanderers.

They were then beaten 2-0 away at Reading before their draw with Rotherham United. It hasn’t been a bad start apart from their loss to the Royals and the Addicks will aim to get another positive result on Saturday.
