Rotherham United keen to keep hold of 26-year-old in January

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has clarified that he would like to keep hold of Hakeem Odoffin this winter.

Rotherham United risks losing the Barnet-born man for free at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Odoffin, 26, is facing an uncertain long-term future with the League One side ahead of the January transfer window.

Evans has shared this update, as per a report by the Rotherham Advertiser:“If I’m Santa Claus, I give him a deal, but I’m not Santa Claus.”

He added: “Haks can play right-back, centre-back, centre mid, play the ’10’, and play up front. He’s an incredible kid. He knows my views on this. But he also knows that I need to make my representations to the board at the right time.

“When I go to see Tony Stewart, I have to make sure it’s with an air of confidence and that we’re not where we were in the table.”

Next month may be the final chance that Rotherham United get to cash in on Odoffin.

Agreeing an extension would be a massive boost for the Millers as they prepare for the second half of the season.

However, due to the nature of his contract situation, he can start to weigh up his options.

Rotherham United signed the Londoner back in 2021 to bolster their ranks.

He has since made 109 appearances for the South Yorkshire outfit in all competitions to date, 16 of which have come in the league so far in this campaign, and he has scored 12 goals.

As Evans alluded to, he is a useful player to have in and around the squad, as he can play in a variety of different positions.

Odoffin has had spells in the past at Tottenham Hotspur, Reading, Barnet, Wolves, Eastleigh, Northampton Town, Livingston, and Hamilton Academical.

He has made Rotherham United his home over the past three years and their manager wants to retain his services for longer.

What now?

Time will tell whether teams come in for Odoffin in January.

The Millers were relegated from the Championship last term after finishing in the bottom three along with Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town.

It has taken them a while to adapt to life back in the third tier and they are sitting in 17th place in the table, four points above the drop zone, as they prepare to play Mansfield Town this weekend.
