Rotherham United poised to cut ties with 24-year-old on a permanent basis next summer

Rotherham United’s Josh Kayode is ‘set’ to leave the club when his contract expires next summer, as detailed in a report by the Rotherham Advertiser.

Rotherham United loaned out the striker to fellow League One side Shrewsbury Town in July to get some game time under his belt. However, he has now picked up an injury and has been ruled out until December at least.

Kayode, 24, has been on the books at the New York Stadium for his whole career to date and rose up through the academy ranks of the South Yorkshire outfit. However, he has been loaned out a number of times to other teams.

In this latest update regarding his long-term future with his parent club, the Rotherham Advertiser claim they are poised to ‘part company’ with him in May when his deal runs out. When he is fit again, his time with the Shrews could be used to help put himself in the shop window.

Update on Rotherham United man’s future

Kayode made his Rotherham United debut back in 2017 in an EFL Trophy clash against Manchester City Under-21’s.

His time with the Millers has been very stop-start though due to injuries.

The Dublin-born man has made 37 appearances for them in all competitions to date and has scored three goals.

Kayode has been loaned out to Chesterfield, Gateshead, Carlisle United and MK Dons in the past to get some experience under his belt.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international has played four times already this term for Shrewsbury Town and has found the net once.

What now?

Kayode’s immediate focus will be on recovering and getting back out on the pitch with the Shrews.

He gives them more competition and depth up top when he is available.

It appears he may have played his last game for Rotherham United though, which is a shame for him.

However, it gives him the chance to lay down some roots somewhere else next year.

His chances of getting opportunities with the Millers these days are slim due to competition for his place from the likes of Jonson Clarke-Harris, Sam Nombe and Jordan Hugill.
