Russell Martin drops 28y/o ace in two key changes – Predicted Southampton XI v Wolves

Southampton will be looking to pick up their second win in the Premier League when they face Wolves on Saturday at Molineux.

The Saints picked up their first win last week when they defeated Everton 1-0, and they need another strong performance against Wolves, who are without a win this season.

This fixture can be seen as a potential relegation six-pointer. Wolves are rock bottom in the Premier League with only three points, and Southampton are just ahead of them with four points.

While Martin retains the support of sporting director Rasmus Ankersen, Serbian billionaire owner “Dragan Solak has grown impatient” with poor results.

If the Saints lose against the Wolves, there is a chance that Martin might lose his job.

Ahead of the match, Martin confirmed that the Saints do not have any fresh injury concerns. Ryan Fraser is back in training, but he will be available after the international break.

Here’s the Southampton predicted XI.

Goalkeeper

Aaron Ramsdale was sensational against the Toffees, and Troy Deeney picked him in his team of the week for BBC Sports. He is high on confidence at the moment and will be the first name on the teamsheet.

Defence

Jan Bednarek has started every game for the Saints this season. He has played out 825 passes, the most by any defender in the Premier League this season, and there’s no reason why he should be dropped.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis deservedly gets a call-up to the national team, and like Ramsdale, he is also running high on confidence. Jack Stephens will continue at the back, and he’ll be hoping to impress yet again against Wolves.

Yukinari Sugawara provided the assist for Adam Armstrong’s goal and he deserves to start in the first team. In that case, Ryan Manning, 28, could be dropped for this game, as Martin would switch Kyle Walker-Peter’s position at left-back.

Midfield

Mateus Fernandes has become a key player under Martin. He made six crosse and four dribbles and managed 97.4% passing accuracy in the previous game.

Flynn Downes has been excellent this season since his permanent move from West Ham, and he will retain his place in the side.

Joe Aribo impressed against Everton in his cameo role and should be a natural replacement for Adam Lallana, who is likely to miss out due to injury.

Attack

Adam Armstrong and Cameron Archer have both developed a strong on-field understanding between them, and Martin will hope that the duo will play a key role against Wolves.

Martin was full of praise for Archer, while Armstrong will he looking to get his name on the scoresheet yet again.
